Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday termed the controversy surrounding Galgotias University’s alleged display of a Chinese-made robotic dog as its own innovation at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 a “disorganised PR spectacle,” alleging that Indian data was being compromised while foreign products were passed off as homegrown technology. Reacting to Rahul gandhi’s remarks, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Rahul Gandhi is someone who needs artificial intelligence (AI) the most, and artificial intelligence can provide support.

Speaking with reporters in Delhi, Devendra Fadnavis said, “I would just like to say that they need AI the most, because at times when human intelligence becomes negligible, AI can provide support.”

On the microblogging site X, Rahul Gandhi reposted a post by Congress and said, "Instead of leveraging India's talent and data, the AI summit is a disorganised PR spectacle - Indian data up for sale, Chinese products showcased."

Authorities have reportedly directed Galgotias University to clear its stall at the AI Impact Summit Expo after allegations surfaced that it showcased a Chinese-manufactured robotic dog as its own creation, NDTV reported, citing sources.

The institution drew sharp criticism both online and offline when the robot, allegedly produced by a Chinese company, was displayed at the university’s exhibition booth, sparking questions about the authenticity of its claims.

Earlier, as the controversy intensified, the university released an official statement expressing concern over what it described as “propaganda” targeting the institution. It maintained that robotic programming forms part of its academic efforts to train students in building artificial intelligence applications, allowing them to acquire practical, real-world skills through the use of globally accessible tools and technologies.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is a five-day event. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at harat Mandapam in Delhi on February 18. He highlighted that the that India’s progress in AI will shape transformative solutions for the nation and will contribute to global advancement.
