Jaipur, May 6 In a major anti-corruption action, the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested Anandilal Meena, Joint Director of Agriculture Extension in Baran district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.
The accused was caught red-handed during a carefully planned trap operation conducted by an ACB team.
According to officials, the action followed a written complaint submitted on May 4 by two complainants, who alleged that the officer was demanding Rs 5,000 each from vendors dealing in agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, seeds and pesticides.
The complainants stated that the bribe was being sought in exchange for verification of their stock registers, a mandatory administrative process required for their business operations.
Taking the complaint seriously, the ACB initiated confidential verification proceedings on May 5. During the process, the allegations were found to be substantiated.
Investigators confirmed that the accused had already accepted Rs 2,000 as partial payment from one of the complainants and was insisting on the remaining Rs 3,000.
Acting on these findings, the ACB team laid a trap on May 6 under the supervision of Omprakash Meena, Deputy Inspector General of Police, ACB Kota Range.
The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalu Ram Verma and executed by a team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Premchand.
During the operation, the accused official was caught while allegedly accepting a total bribe amount of Rs 8,000 — Rs 5,000 from one complainant and Rs 3,000 from another.
He was immediately taken into custody.
Senior ACB officials confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Further questioning is underway to ascertain whether more individuals were involved or if similar demands had been made from other vendors in the district.
The investigation is being monitored by senior officials, including Additional Director General of Police Smita Srivastava and Inspector General of Police S. Parimala.
