Jaipur, Jan 21 In another case of reckless driving, an 18-year-old girl, Anaya Sharma, was killed in a hit-and-run incident after being run over by a speeding Thar SUV on the expressway on Wednesday.

The accused driver fled the scene, triggering widespread outrage.

Anaya Sharma, a resident of Jhunjhunu, was living in Jaipur with her sister and was preparing for the Indian Air Force physical examination.

As part of her training routine, she went jogging every morning. On Wednesday morning, Anaya was running on the Shanti Bagh stretch of the expressway along with her sister when a speeding black Thar SUV hit her from behind.

She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.

According to police, after hitting Anaya, the Thar driver panicked and fled the scene.

While escaping, the vehicle also rammed into another vehicle further down the road. The driver later abandoned the Thar SUV near Dadi ka Phatak and escaped on foot.

An official said that the police conducted a post-mortem and handed over the body to the family, who have taken it to their native village for the last rites. The abandoned Thar SUV has been seized.

A case has been registered at Kardhani Police Station.

Police officials said special teams have been formed to trace the absconding driver. CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and other evidence are being examined to identify and arrest the accused.

The incident has sparked anger among residents, who have demanded strict action against speeding and reckless driving on the expressway. Police have assured that the accused will be arrested soon and that stringent legal action will follow.
