A 23-year-old man died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train on the Delhi-Mumbai railway line in Kota, Rajasthan, following an altercation with his wife, police reported on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Dilraj Meena, a resident of Sawai Madhopur district. According to Devesh Bhardwaj, Circle Inspector at Borekheda police station, Dilraj took the extreme step even as his wife attempted to stop him, as recounted by relatives.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Dilraj Meena had reportedly uploaded a text on his WhatsApp status suggesting he intended to harm himself. The couple, who married last year after a period of courtship, were residing in Balaji Ki Bagichi, Kota, while preparing for the Staff Selection Commission exam.
Police stated that the couple had an argument on Sunday, after which Dilraj left their residence, threatening to end his life. Relatives reported that his wife ran after him towards the railway tracks, pleading with him to stop. However, he jumped before the oncoming train just meters before she could reach him. The body of Dilraj Meena has been handed over to his family following a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
