Mumbai, July 7 Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said recruitment of vacant posts in public universities and non-government colleges will be accelerated, and 100 per cent recruitment in engineering government-aided institutions will be pushed.
He added that filling up the vacant posts of teachers and non-teaching staff in non-agricultural public universities and non-government colleges in the state will help improve the quality of higher education, as per the implementation of the new education policy.
He gave instructions that the pattern of teachers and non-teaching staff in non-agricultural universities should be completed as soon as possible. He was speaking at a review meeting organised on various issues of the Higher and Technical Education Department at Vidhan Bhavan.
He said that the number of technological universities in the state is low, and it is necessary to keep these universities running at full capacity. This will provide more opportunities to students and improve quality.
He directed that 105 teaching posts and one teacher equivalent post should be approved in Lakshminarayan Innovative Technological University. Along with this, approval was given to provide Rs 8 crore to the Technological University to meet daily and administrative expenses like other universities. Approval has also been given to fill 788 teaching posts and 2242 non-teaching posts.
Further, the chief minister also gave consent to recruit 5012 vacant assistant professor posts in non-government-aided colleges under the Directorate of Higher Education.
Approval has also been given to recruit 100 per cent posts in other government-aided institutions in the state, including VJTI and Shri Gurugovind Singh Engineering College, Nanded. A revised structure of a total of 603 posts was also approved for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University.
The Chief Minister has cleared the proposal to increase the library grant by 40 per cent and instructed that this proposal should be sent to the Finance Department immediately. He also instructed that the libraries in categories 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D' have been inspected and their upgradation has been approved in principle, and the proposal for the increased grant required for this should be submitted to the Finance Department.
He also directed that a proposal be submitted for government approval of new libraries in the same proportion as the approval of 1706 libraries in the state has been cancelled, and also approved the approval of special incentive grants to public libraries completing 50,75,100 years respectively in the state.
The Chief Minister said that while science and technology are the need of the hour as the government is using technology in all departments. The Science and Technology Department is functioning in many states, and he instructed to prepare an outline on how this department can be started in Maharashtra by studying the working system in other states.
