The Supreme Court, SC refused to entertain any pleas of the political parties that were challenging the Centre's decision to not grant 50 per cent reservation to OBC candidates in Tamil Nadu. The plea was heard by the bench comprising Justices L Nageswara Rao, Krishna Murari and S Ravindra Bhat. They asked the lawyers for Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Vaiko, Anbumani Ramadoss, CPI (M), Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and CPI to reach out to the Madras High Court.
The decision of Centre was challenged for not granting 50 per cent reservation to OBC's in seats surrendered by Tamil Nadu in the All India Quota for undergraduate, postgraduate medical and dental courses for the present academic session.DMK said that the Medical Council of India regulations clearly agrees with the state’s reservation laws too. The parties felt that the OBCs were underrepresented in the past many examinations in the state.
DMK had sought an ad-interim injunction that would refrain the candidates from attending the process of All India Counselling for NEET PG seats without following the 50 per cent reservation for OBC quota in the state. The ruling party had alleged that there could not be any logic for not providing the benefit of 50 per cent reservation for OBCs. the Supreme Court however has asked the parties to approach the Madras High court.
