Roads of Maujpur, Jaffrabad deserted as forces begin flag marches

New Delhi, Feb 26 Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have started flag marches in violence-hit areas of northeast Delhi from Wednesday morning.

Armed security personnel have been deployed in violence-prone areas here. Apart from this, fire extinguishers, police anti-riot Vajra vehicles and ambulances have been kept ready for medical emergency.

The main roads of areas like Maujpur, Jaffrabad, Kabir Nagar, and Vijay Park are deserted, and the local people are still seen in groups. There have been incidents of continuous violence in the Kabir Nagar area near Maujpur for the last two days.

Glasses of hospitals and homes were also broken. A fire incident was reported in the area. Rapid Action Force and paramilitary forces have now been deployed. So far 20 people have been reported dead in incidents of violence, including a policeman.

Kabir Nagar area was wracked by intense violence on Tuesday as miscreants fired multiple gunshots. Around 250 people have been injured in the unrest.

In view of the violence on Tuesday, police patrolling has been increased in these areas since Wednesday morning. Senior police officers also arrived here and paramilitary forces have also conducted flag marches to restore peace in the area.

According to Gopal Rai, local MLA and Environment Minister in the Delhi government, there were several clashes in Ghonda, Noor-e-Ilahi, Bhajanpura, Momin Chowk areas. Rai has demanded the Delhi Police immediately deploy additional police forces in these areas.

On Wednesday too, several incidents of violent clashes took place in Gokulpuri area where miscreants also set fire to a tyre godown.

A meeting of MLAs and senior officials of all parties was held on Tuesday at the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal regarding the violence in northeast Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also held a meeting with senior officials, including the Chief Minister, on the situation.
