The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed rucks one again on Wednesday, April 9, after a scuffle broke out between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraaj Malik and BJP legislators over the demand for a discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill Act. The house was adjourned for three hours.

BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa responded to allegations made by AAP MLA Mehraaj Malik, saying, "He has abused Hindus... We will not tolerate this... He has said 'Hindu tilak laga ke paap karta hai'... We will give him an answer." Meanwhile, AAP MLA Mehraj Malik engaged in a heated exchange with PDP MLA Waheed Parra during the session.

"You have been a traitor... he has brought in the mafia. There are so many people outside. Who are these people?" Malik said to Parra. Speaking to reporters later, Malik added, "He tells me I have no respect or manners. Will he teach me?"

The rucks erupted in the Assembly, forcing speaker Abdul Rahim Lather once again to disallow an adjournment motion on the Waqf act moved by members of the ruling National Conference and its alliance partners. Meanwhile, the leader of opposition in J&K, Sunil Sharma, accused the Centre of diverting attention from pressing issues. “We moved an adjournment motion to demand discussions on regularising daily wagers and addressing youth unemployment. But the government is avoiding these critical matters,” he said.
