Sasaram Violence: Protest Erupts in Bihar After Student Shot Dead, Two Injured in Exam Hall Clash Over Cheating

A group of students took over streets in the Sasaram area of Bihar's Rohtas district on Friday, February 21, after a class 10th student, Amit Kumar, was shot dead and two others were injured during a clash over cheating in the exam. According to the reports the clash erupted between two groups of students in the examination centre in Sasaram, where a heated dispute between students escalated into a fight.

Police officials and authorities reached the spot and the injured were transported to the hospital for treatment. According to the police, one student suffered a bullet injury on the leg, while another was shot in the back. One of the seriously injured students succumbed to bullet injuries during the treatment at the hospital.

Due to the death of the student, the deceased's family and villagers blocked the National Highway in Dehri in protest to demand justice. However, authorities intervened and assured them of swift action in the case. The protestors were eventually pacified, and the family proceeded with the final rites.

"A gunfight between students took place... one of the students received bullet injury in the leg and another in the back. One of the students succumbed to injury during treatment. Villagers along with family members of the deceased student tried to block the highway, however, we ensured them of action in the case. They were convinced and took the body for final rites," said a police official.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify those responsible for the violence.

A video shared by the news agency PTI shows a long queue of vehicles lining up on the road as they are unable to move forward due to a protest following the death of a student in Rohtas.
