The priest of a Gurdwara from Haryana, Sant Ram Singh, who joined the farmers' protest, has died by suicide; he had shot himself.

"We got information that Sant Ram Singh of Karnal committed suicide by shooting himself. He was taken to Panipat hospital, where he died. Then, he was taken to Karnal Civil Hospital, where Sonipat Police is also there for further probe", said Virendra Singh, DSP (Head Quarter), Sonipat. 

A handwritten note in Punjabi, purportedly left behind by the deceased, says he was unable to bear the "pain of farmers". The note is being verified by the police.

An official of the Sonipat police said they had received a call that Sant Ram Singh (65), who hailed from Singhra village in Nissing area of Karnal district, allegedly shot himself. He was rushed to a hospital in Panipat where doctors declared him brought dead.

A patient Baba Ram Singh was brought dead to us, who had shot himself in the head using a weapon. Reason will be known after the police investigation. We declared him brought dead. He has been taken to a government hospital in Karnal for post-mortem, said Dr Pradeep, Park Hospital, Panipat.

His followers said the funeral will be held in Karnal on Friday.
