A devastating plane crash involving an Air India aircraft heading to London has shaken the nation. The aircraft was carrying 242 people, including passengers and crew members. The tragedy occurred on Thursday afternoon, June 12. Shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, the plane crashed and exploded within minutes, leading to a horrific loss of life. The Air India flight AI171 had originally arrived from Delhi and was en route from Ahmedabad to London. According to preliminary information, there were 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board. The aircraft took off at 1:38 PM but crashed just a few minutes later in the Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad, approximately 15 kilometers from the airport. Tragically, the plane crashed into buildings used as dormitories for a medical hospital. A video of the incident has surfaced, showing the aircraft lifting off from the runway, reaching a certain altitude, then gradually descending before disappearing from sight and crashing with a massive explosion. Out of the 242 people onboard, 240 have reportedly died in the crash. Among the deceased is former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The nation is mourning this massive tragedy.
The Tata Group, which owns Air India, has expressed deep sorrow. "There are no words to express our grief," said N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons. The Tata Group has announced a compensation of ₹1 crore (10 million INR) to the families of each victim. Additionally, they have committed to covering the medical expenses of the injured and rebuilding the damaged dormitory buildings affected by the crash.
