Special training prog for Maldivian civil servants from Sep 16

The Special Training Program for Maldivian civil servants will be conducted from September 16 to 28 at Mussoorie and Delhi, an official statement said on Sunday.

A 32-member Maldives delegation arrived at the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) campus in Mussoorie.

The training program for Maldivian civil servants will be conducted under the India-Maldives Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Training and Capacity Building Programme between the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) and the Maldives Civil Service Commission (CSC).

According to the statement, senior policy makers from the government, including Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) Secretary K.V. Eapen, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration Director Sanjeev Chopra and DARPG Additional Secretary V.Srinivas would be addressing the participants in the two-week training program.

"Aly Shameem, Chairman of the Civil Services Commission of Maldives would address the valedictory session on September 28," the statement said.

During his visit to Maldives in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasised India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and assured India's full support to Maldives in realising its aspirations for broad-based socio-economic development and strengthening of its democratic and independent institutions.

One of the MoUs signed during the visit was between the NCGG and CSC which envisaged capacity building activities for 1,000 civil servants from Maldives at the National Centre for Good Governance over the next five years.

Under the MoU, 10 training programmes will be conducted from September 2019 to December 2020.

The first three training programs under the MoU would be held in this year.

India is the largest development partner for the capacity building of Maldivian Civil Servants. A unique feature of the special training program is that 70 per cent of the delegates are women officials.
