Thiruvananthapuram, March 17 Former Supreme Court judge Kurian Joseph on Tuesday reacted sharply on the news of ex-Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi accepting a nominated Rajya Sabha seat.

Joseph said: "'We have discharged our debt to the nation' was the statement made by Justice Ranjan Gogoi along with the three of us on January 12, 2018. I am surprised as to how Justice Ranjan Gogoi who once exhibited such courage of conviction to uphold the independence of judiciary, has compromised the noble principle on the independence and impartiality of the judiciary."

On January 12, 2018, the second seniormost judge of the apex court Justice J. Chelameswar accompanied by Justices Gogoi, M.B. Lokur and Kurian Joseph in a first-of-its-kind event had held a press conference and pointed out that the administration of the Supreme Court was not in order.
