The New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) is the association of the Patiaha House Court that will take over the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks case. In an official Press Release, NDBA stated that they will ensure transparent proceedings against the 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind. Tahawwur Rana was brought to Delhi from the US on April 10 at 02:30 PM. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested him, and he will be lodged in Tihar Jail under tight security in a special cell. He is accused of co-conspiring in the 2008 blasts and terror attacks.

NDBA in its press release stated, “Our Bar Association will ensure that there should not be any disruption of law and order within the complex or disturbance in the judicial proceedings. As we are cautious of the seriousness and gravity of the case. This issue is directly involved with the integrity of our country, hence as the office bearers of New Delhi Bar Association, our Executive committee is committed to ensure fair and transparent proceedings abiding the law of our country.”

The trial records of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks case reached Delhi. According to PTI reports, these records were handed to District Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav. This was done following his  January 28 order directing Mumbai court officials to transfer them. This relocation was requested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in order to expedite the procedures against Rana. Since the case involved numerous FIRs and court cases in both cities, these records had previously been transferred to Mumbai.

Rana (64), a Canadian businessman and former army doctor who was born in Pakistan, is charged with assisting his childhood friend, American terrorist David Headley, who is of Pakistani descent, in carrying out surveillance for the 26/11 attacks. The terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), based in Pakistan, planned the assaults, which targeted hotels, a train station, and other places, killing 166 people and injuring hundreds more.

After a protracted extradition battle, Rana returned to India. The US Supreme Court denied his last appeal earlier this week. His status was soon changed by the US Bureau of Prisons to reflect that he was no longer under federal custody.
