A man in Tamil Nadu allegedly attempted suicide after believing false rumours on social media that his favourite actor and Tamil Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay was losing in the Assembly elections 2026 on Monday, May 4 as counting of votes continues.

The fan identified as K. Mahendran (28) from Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, is said to be a devoted fan of Vijay. Before vote counting began on Monday morning, rumours circulated on social media claiming that Vijay was trailing in the elections. Believing the reports to be true, Mahendran reportedly became distressed and allegedly slit his throat with a sharp object.

Local residents who found him lying in a pool of blood rushed him to a nearby hospital. According to police, Mahendran is currently out of danger and undergoing treatment.
