A tragic explosion occurred at a private firecrackers factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday evening, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to four others. The victims have been identified as Muthukannan (21) and Vijay (25), while Selvam (21), Prashanth (20), Sendhurkani (45), and Muthumari (41) sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at Sathankulam Government Hospital.

In response to the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a financial assistance package. The Chief Minister has declared an ex-gratia of ₹3 lakhs each for the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh each for the injured individuals.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Office posted a note on X (formerly Twitter) stating, "The Hon'ble Chief Minister @mkstalin has announced condolence and financial assistance to the families of the two persons who died in an explosion at a private firecracker factory in the village of Mechankulam, Eral Circle, Tuticorin District."
