A train engine of a goods train travelling from Tamil Nadu's Thiruvarur to Karaikal in Puducherry derailed in early hours of Monday, February 24. After veering off the railway track, the train ran a short distance on the gravel before coming to a halt, causing a stir in the area.

Earlier on Friday, three wagons of a goods train derailed in Titilagarh yard, in Titilagarh, Odisha. The train was loaded with red mud and on its way to a cement plant in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Soon after the incident, East Coast Railways officials, along with the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sambalpur, arrived at the site and initiated an investigation.
