New Delhi, Jan 23 Ahead of his Tamil Nadu visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) growing appeal in the southern state.
In his post on X, PM Modi said, “Tamil Nadu is with NDA! I’ll be joining NDA leaders at the rally in Madurantakam later today. Tamil Nadu has decided that it’s time to bid farewell to the corrupt DMK Government. The NDA’s governance record and commitment to regional aspirations are striking a chord with the people of the state.”
The Prime Minister’s message sets the tone for a major political rally scheduled for Friday in Madurantakam, along the Chennai-Tindivanam highway, as the NDA formally launches its campaign for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
With the polls drawing closer, political activity in the state has intensified.
The BJP state president and legislative party leader, Nainar Nagenthran, announced that the Prime Minister will address a high-profile public gathering in the afternoon, marking the beginning of the NDA’s electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
“On January 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the NDA campaign in Madurantakam. He will participate in the meeting to send home the anti‑people DMK government currently ruling Tamil Nadu,” Nagenthran told reporters earlier this week.
The rally is the first major public meeting in the state ahead of the elections and is expected to draw large crowds and volunteers from across Tamil Nadu. Leaders from key NDA constituents are slated to attend, including the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK).
In his X post, PM Modi’s emphasis on good governance, regional aspirations and what he described as a “corrupt” DMK administration reflects the NDA’s broader strategy to position itself as a credible alternative ahead of the elections.
The Madurantakam rally is expected not only to energise party cadres but also to signal the commencement of sustained campaign activities across Tamil Nadu as the Assembly polls approach.
