Heavy rainfall lashed several districts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday evening, resulting in waterlogging in low-lying areas. One person died of electrocution in Palladam, Tirupur district. A large number of trees were uprooted last night due to heavy rain and cyclonic winds.

The water level in the Hogenakkal stretch of the Kaveri River has surged from 300 to 5,000 cubic feet. A farmer in the Salem district reported suffering significant crop losses due to the heavy rain and winds, with around 2,000 banana trees uprooted on his farm. A part from this, heavy rain  caused fallen power lines, and collapsed internet cables blocked key roads connecting Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Pollachi, Udumalpet, Tiruchy, and Madurai

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the weather in Chennai and the surrounding districts will remain partly cloudy with a chance of light rain over the next few days. This is due to a cyclonic circulation forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which is bringing rain and winds across the state.

Rainfall in Chennai is expected on April 6, 8, 9, and 12. However, no significant weather warnings have been issued for Chennai itself. The RMC has issued a yellow alert for the Ghat regions of Coimbatore and the districts of Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, and Tenkasi. These areas could experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, particularly on Sunday and Monday.
