Patna, April 28 Following the murder of a youth from Bihar in New Delhi and injuries to another, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) National Working President, Tejashwi Yadav, launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government, under whose jurisdiction the Delhi Police operates.

In a post on social media platform X, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that “being a Bihari has become a crime” under the current regime.

He claimed that 23-year-old Pandav Kumar, a resident of Khagaria district in Bihar, was shot dead, while his friend Krishna sustained critical injuries in the incident.

Tejashwi Yadav accused the ruling dispensation of failing to ensure the safety of migrant Biharis in the national Capital.

He pointed out that multiple levels of governance in Delhi and at the Centre are led by the BJP, including the administration overseeing law and order.

“In Delhi—the national Capital—where this shooting took place (specifically because the victims were perceived as "Biharis"), the Municipal Councilor belongs to the BJP; the MLA is from the BJP; the MP is from the BJP; the Chief Minister of Delhi is from the BJP; the Chief Minister of Bihar is also from the BJP; half a dozen inactive, bombastic Union Ministers hail from Bihar; the Lieutenant Governor is from the BJP; the Union Home Minister is from the BJP; and the Prime Minister is from the BJP. The BJP has effectively become a harbinger of death for Biharis,” Yadav stated in the post.

He further alleged that due to prolonged economic challenges in Bihar, people are forced to migrate to other states, where they often face discrimination and harassment.

He also questioned the role of law enforcement, claiming that the victim was treated unfairly.

“Does any member of the BJP have the courage to ensure that the murderous police officer—who killed a poor, hardworking Bihari—is brought to justice and punished? In reality, due to 21 years of flawed policies implemented by the Nitish-BJP alliance, the people of Bihar are compelled to migrate to other states. Yet, the BJP governments and administrations in these other states do not view these hardworking Biharis with respect; instead, they regard them with suspicion, hatred, and disdain. Time and again, atrocities are committed against Biharis, and migrant Biharis fall victim to harassment and persecution,” Tejashwi said.

“The Delhi Police—which operates under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and bears the responsibility for public safety—instead treated the victim as a criminal simply for being a Bihari and shot him. Could there be an incident more reprehensible than this? The bombastic leaders of the NDA have gone into hiding, remaining conspicuously silent regarding this incident,” Tejashwi said.

The RJD leader demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, strict action against those responsible, and adequate compensation for the victim’s family.

He described the incident as an attack on the dignity of Bihar and its people, urging the authorities to act without delay.

The incident has triggered political reactions, with Opposition leaders raising concerns over the safety of migrants, while attention is now focussed on the response of authorities and the outcome of the investigation.
