A tragic industrial accident in Telangana’s Rangareddy district claimed the lives of at least five workers and left 11 others injured after a crane collapsed at the NCC Central Workshop on April 27. The mishap took place in Mahalingapuram village of Shankarpalli mandal under the Chevella police limits. According to Chevella Deputy Commissioner of Police Yogesh Gautam, the incident occurred during heavy rainfall accompanied by powerful winds that lashed the area. Authorities said the sudden weather conditions created panic at the worksite, forcing several labourers to rush toward a nearby shed in an attempt to protect themselves from the downpour and strong gusts.

Police officials stated that around 16 workers had gathered inside a temporary shed located next to the crane while seeking refuge from the rain. Moments later, the crane structure reportedly collapsed unexpectedly and crashed directly onto the shelter, trapping the workers underneath. Rescue teams and local authorities rushed to the spot and began relief operations immediately after receiving information about the accident. Five workers lost their lives due to severe injuries sustained in the collapse, while the remaining 11 workers were admitted to different hospitals for treatment. Officials said some of the injured are in extremely critical condition, and a few victims are reportedly battling for their lives in a coma.

The workers who died in the accident were identified as Ali Hussain, Nagendra Singh, Sajeem, Mukesh Kumar and Sonu Rajibi. Police confirmed that all five victims were natives of Bihar and had been employed at the workshop site. The incident has triggered concern over workplace safety and the condition of temporary structures at industrial sites during adverse weather conditions. Senior police officials visited the location and inspected the damaged area after the collapse. DCP Yogesh Gautam stated that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible based on the inquiry findings.
