Hyderabad, Jan 9 Telangana has registered 298 new Covid-19 cases, increasing the state's overall infection tally to 2.89 lakh, even as 474 more patients recovered from the virus to outnumber infections on Saturday.

Hyderabad accounted for the highest number, 61, of cases in the past 24 hours, followed by Rangareddy (28), Medhcal Malkajgiri (25), Karimnagar (16) and Sangareddy (10).

Among other places, Warangal Urban, Nizamabad and Jagityal (nine each), Warangal Rural, Mancherial and Bhadradri Kothagudem (eight each) and Nalgonda and Nirmal (seven each).

Though total cases shot up to 2.89 lakh with the addition of new cases, active cases currently stand at 4,822, higher than neighbouring Telugu state Andhra Pradesh.

Powered by 474 recoveries, Telangana's recovery rate at 97.7 per cent is higher than the national average of 96.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, two more people succumbed to the virus, increasing the total number of Covid deaths to 1,563.

On adding the new deaths, the southern state's Covid fatality rate stands at 0.54 per cent, lower than the national average of 1.4 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, Telangana tested 31,187 more samples for the virus, raising the total number of tests beyond 72 lakh.

Per million population, Telangana tested 1.93 lakh samples for the virus.
