The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has gained momentum in its leads against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  at the West Bengal Assembly elections 2021. Mamata Banerjee was leading in 199 seats and the BJP in 90 — trends that showed the TMC had crossed the halfway mark in the state having 294 assembly seats. In the high-profile Nandigram seat, the BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari had a lead of over 8,000 votes against chief minister Mamata Banerjee after three rounds of counting.

The Election Commission’s official trends suggested the TMC was ahead in 198 constituencies and the BJP in 79. While the ruling party had a vote share of 48.4%, the corresponding number for the BJP was 37.4%. If the current trends hold, the party will easily form its third successive government in the state. Two of the BJP Lok Sabha MPs Babul Supriyo, a minister in the Narendra Modi government, and Locket Chatterjee, were trailing in Tollygunge and Chuunchura seats. Supriyo represents Asansol and Chatterjee Hooghly seat in the Lok Sabha.BJP's Suvendu Adhikari has got 27,640 votes till the fourth round, while TMC leader and CM Mamata Banerjee has got 23,930. The margin between the two rivals have significantly decreased as Mamata maintained a lead over Suvendu in the fourth round of counting.
