The railways have decided to restore all the traditinal Kerala dishes and snacks after a massive online backlash was witnessed by Keralites. The decison to replace pazhampori, appam, porotta, unniappam, neyyappam, and sukhiyan with snacks like samosa and kachori angered a lot of south indians who voiced their disapproval on social media. Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden also wrote a letter to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to bring back the local dishes.

"Some dishes which are very important to Malayalees for breakfast, such as appam, egg curry, porotta, dosa, chapatti, steam cake (Puttu) were excluded along with snacks such as banana fry (pazham pori), Baji ilayada, kozhukkatta, unniyappam, neyyappam, modakkam/sukhiyan. Soft drinks such as lime water also excluded," Mr Eden said in his letter.

Taking note of the feedback from ministers and users the IRCTC a subsidiary of the Indian Railways, which runs the restaurants at railway stations, restored the old menu per the "regional preferences" and also added fish curry to the revised menu. "In view of the demand from passengers and representations received, IRCTC has fully authorised its local offices in zones and regions to bring more items as per the local taste and regional preferences within one week as snack meals," the IRCTC tweeted on Tuesday."It is further informed all the food items served earlier will be restored," it added. Mr Eden welcomed the IRCTC's decision ad shared a picture of the revised menu.
