Tripura Horror: Man Allegedly Assaults Woman After Luring Her With Promise of iPhone

A man sexually assaulted tribal woman in promise of gifting an expensive iPhone in Tripura. Police has arrested a social media content creator and mobile shop owner in connection with this case. The accused resident of the Kamalpur area in Dhalai district, allegedly came in contact with the victim through Facebook a few months ago. After regularly communicating on social media, the accused allegedly persuaded the victim to meet him in Agartala, promising her an iPhone. She traveled to Agartala by train Saturday morning, purportedly to buy medicines.

Upon her arrival at Badharghat Railway Station, the accused met her on a motorcycle and allegedly took her to a hotel near the station instead of their agreed-upon location. There, he allegedly raped her and physically assaulted her when she resisted. Before leaving, he allegedly stole her phone and later threatened her.

After escaping the hotel, the survivor filed a written complaint at the West Agartala Women Police Station. Promptly acting on the complaint, Inspector Shiuli Das led a police team in a Saturday night raid of the accused's mobile phone shop near Laxminarayan Bari in Agartala, resulting in his detention. Sources identified the accused as a local social media content creator and owner of two mobile phone shops in Agartala, located near Siddhi Ashram and Laxminarayan Bari. He is a married father residing in the Gangail Road area. Police stated that the accused attempted to intimidate officers at the station by boasting of his influence. He was then transferred to the Amtali Police Station and formally arrested around 2 AM on Sunday.

Amtali Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Inspector Paritosh Das, stated the accused was arrested late Saturday night under Sections 65(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
