New Delhi, Feb 17 Twitterati hailed Supreme Court's decision which mandated the implementation of Permanent Commission for women in the Armed Forces, thereby allowing them to be appointed as commanders.

Supreme Court in a significant judgement on Monday said "To cast aspersions on women based on gender is in fact an affront to the entire Army where men and women serve as equal soldiers."

As the news came out in public domain, Twitterati have flooded the social media with their reactions.

BJP leader Meenakashi Lekhi wrote, 'Grateful to all who supported our cause. Picture says it all. PM Sh Narendra Modi exhibited political will to grant permanent commission to the lady officers but administrators translated it to future appointments. J.Chandrachud & Rastogi have implemented it to serving officers."

Film director and producer Madhur Bhandarkar wrote, "Welcome judgement by Hon. Supreme Court granting permanent commission to women officers in the Indian Army. Women officers perform equally well and bring the same pride and honour to the country as male officers."

Bollywood actress Richa Chadha expressed her gratitude to Supreme Court and wrote, "Thank You."

A user wrote, "So proud today! Thank you Supreme Court! #WomenInArmy...#IndianArmy...'Mindset Must Change': Top Court On Army Women To Command"

Another wrote, "Absolutely !! Thank you sir, for being Gender neutral. #WomeninArmy #India"

A post read, "Good Decision. Make Recruitment, Training, Fitness Standards, Service Conditions and Postings fully gender neutral."

A user remarked, "In a path breaking verdict demolishing #genderdiscrimination in #IndianArmy, Supreme Court ruled that all #WomenOfficers shall be considered for permanent commission and also be eligible for command posting on par with male officers..Kudos."

The top court said there couldn't be an absolute exclusion of women officers and they couldn't be ruled out for command assignments. It should be considered on a case by case basis, it added.
