The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) wrote on @DRDO_India: "After completing extensive trials on the shore-based test facility, DRDO, ADA developed LCA Navy did an arrested landing on INS Vikramaditya successfully today at 10.02 am. Commodore Jaideep Maolankar did the maiden landing."

#INSVikramaditya trended with 5,173 tweets.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted at @rajnathsingh: "Extremely happy to learn of the maiden landing of DRDO-developed LCA Navy on INS Vikramaditya. This successful landing is a great event in the history of Indian fighter aircraft development programme. Congratulations to Team @DRDO_India & @indiannavy for this achievement."

The Naval LCA is expected to attempt its maiden take-off from the carrier soon.

One user remarked: "Remember this date. It's a historic day today when LCA-N MK1 makes first arrested landing on INS Vikramaditya. India becomes only the 5th country to successfully develop this tech with Tejas."

"Big day for Indian Navy and the Tejas fighter programme. The LCA Navy has completed its first deck landing and take-off on the aircraft carrier. Lump-in-the-throat moment for those like me who have staunchly backed the Tejas in the face of virulent criticism," read one post.

One user praised the pilot: "It's Mao sir all the way. Well done Commodore Jaideep Maolankar to have been onto this project with total focus and undivided attention. Would not have been possible had you faltered anywhere in between. Well done @DRDO, @indiannavy."

"Congratulations to the whole team. And obviously Commodore Jaideep for this historic achievement which will be written on the golden pages of Indian aviation journey. You made this whole nation proud and happy. Thank you so much," said one user.
