Section 144 has been imposed in Tarana town of Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, January 23, after clashes between two groups led to stone pelting in several areas. A bus was also set on fire by unidentified miscreants.

According to reports, an altercation broke out after a man identified as Sohail Thakur was assaulted, triggering tension in the area. The situation worsened during the evening as protests erupted over the attack on Sohail Thakur. Some anti-social elements entered residential areas and pelted stones at houses, shattering several window panes.

The violence intensified when a bus was set on fire, causing panic in the locality and forcing residents to remain indoors. In view of the situation, police and district administration swung into action and deployed around 300 police personnel in Tarana. 

Police are also monitoring sensitive areas using drones to prevent further unrest. So far, five accused have been arrested, while a search is underway to trace the remaining suspect. Sohail Thakur is undergoing treatment at a hospital and is stated to be out of danger.

Tarana MLA, Mahesh Parmar, said, "This is unfortunate. I have been continuously in touch with the administration. The SDM, the Collector and other officials are actively present on the ground..."
