A Delhi court on Monday pronounced former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar guilty of raping a minor in Unnao in 2017. Sengar has been convicted under 376 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 5 and 6 of Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act. However, the co-accused in the case Shashi Singh has been acquitted. Kuldeep Sengar, a four-time BJP MLA  was expelled from the party in August 2019. The case was heard on a day-to-day basis from August 5 after it was transferred to Delhi from a court in Lucknow based on Supreme Court of India's direction.

On July 28th 2019 the car of the victim was hit by a truck and she was severely injured. The woman's two aunts were killed in the accident. A special court was also held at AIIMS Hospital to record the statement of the woman who was admitted after being rushed from a hospital in Lucknow. The victim's father was allegedly framed in an illlegal arms case and was arrested on April 3 and a few days later on April 9th he died in judicial custody.  The victim had written a letter to then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi stating that she faced death threats by Sengar and the case was then shifted outside Uttar Pradesh. The mother and the uncle of the rape survivor  were the main witness in the case.
