Police are closely investigating the murder of Unnao rape victim. All the five accused have already been arrested. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh has said that the killers will be punished based on the statement made by the victim before she died.

On December 5, the victim was set ablaze by five accused. She was rushed from Unnao's health center to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital in Lucknow and then the victim was air lifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The victim lodged a statement before the administrative magistrate at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital in Lucknow on 5 December. On 6 December, the victim died while undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. 

According to HT news, DGP OP Singh said that the police is looking into the matter on priority basis, action will be taken against the five accused in the fast track court. The DGP also said that statements of the victim's father, her elder sister and the doctors who treated her will also be recorded so that the case against the accused can be strengthened.

DGP Singh said that the police officers investigating the case have been asked to file a charge sheet soon. If needed, DNA test of the accused will also be done. The victim's mobile phone, purse and other items have already been sent for forensic examination. The fingerprints of the accused have been found on the victim's items.

The DGP said that the five accused - Harishankar Trivedi, Ram Kishore Trivedi, Umesh Bajpayee, Shivam Trivedi and Shubham Trivedi have been arrested and sent to jail, whose names were mentioned by the victim. The victim alleged that Shivam and Shubham abducted and raped her in 2018. An FIR was registered in the case in March 2019. The main accused Shivam was arrested and sent to jail in September. He was later granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on November 25, and ten days later the incident of burning the woman alive was carried out.
