Lucknow, March 21 An altercation over land dispute turned soar and claimed life of an innocent person in the village of Shishva within the jurisdiction of Tarabganj police station of Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 3.30 p.m. in the afternoon, when a bitter quarrel arose between two brothers, Shrichand and Bhagwati, concerning the construction of a wall upon a piece of inhabited land.

The discord spiralled into chaos, culminating in both parties resorting to the hurling of crude hand grenades locally known as “Hathgola”.

Amidst this turmoil, Ramshankar Mishra, a man of about 52 years, who had been seated upon the roof of his house, was struck by one such grenade and met his untimely death.

Upon receiving news of this grievous event, the officers of Tarabganj police station, accompanied by the area officer, hastened to the scene.

The authorities took the mortal remains of the deceased into their custody and dispatched them to Gonda headquarters for a post-mortem examination, and further investigations are in progress.

The police, upon being apprised of the incident, transformed the village into a fortified zone. The two brothers stand accused of employing explosive devices.

The Tarabganj police station has registered a case under pertinent legal provisions of BNS, and the local law enforcement, along with senior officials, remains actively engaged in addressing the situation.

Vivek Trivedi, the officer in charge of the station, affirmed that proceedings were underway based on the grievances lodged by the bereaved family.

To ensure the safety of the villagers, a police force was stationed, and an exhaustive inquiry into the matter commenced. In the aftermath, senior police officials, alongside forensic and surveillance teams, conducted a meticulous inspection of the site.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police said that a case of murder had been filed against four identified individuals, and four police teams had been mobilised to apprehend the accused.

The situation in the village, now under control, saw the deployment of additional personnel to uphold peace and order.
