A shocking case of domestic abuse has surfaced from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, leaving residents disturbed and raising serious concerns about women’s safety. A woman allegedly endured horrific torture inside her own home for nearly 12 years at the hands of her husband. According to the complaint, the accused, addicted to alcohol and gambling, regularly assaulted his wife and inflicted burns on her body using lit cigarettes. The cruelty reportedly continued for years before he finally drove her out of the house after illegally pronouncing triple talaq. The incident has sparked outrage in the locality and renewed discussions about domestic violence and women’s rights.
The victim, Farha Parveen, stated in her complaint that she married Bilal, a resident of Mughalpura, around 12 years ago. She alleged that shortly after their marriage, Bilal’s violent behaviour became evident as he frequently consumed alcohol and gambled. Whenever he lost money or returned home intoxicated, he allegedly vented his frustration by brutally attacking her. Farha claimed that apart from severe physical assault, her husband often burned different parts of her body with cigarettes. Despite enduring years of abuse, she remained silent due to fear of social stigma and concern for her children’s future, hoping the situation would eventually improve.
According to Farha, the violence escalated dramatically on the night of April 26. At around 11:15 pm, Bilal allegedly forcefully entered the residence of her aunt, where she had been staying recently. He reportedly abused her using obscene language before physically attacking her again. During the altercation, he allegedly pronounced “triple talaq” illegally and threatened to kill her if she appeared before him again. Unable to tolerate the abuse any longer, Farha approached the Nagphani Police Station seeking justice. Police officials, after hearing her account and examining the allegations, registered a case against Bilal under charges related to assault, harassment, and provisions of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
Moradabad Police have confirmed that a formal case has been filed and an investigation is currently underway. Officials stated that the injuries found on Farha’s body are being examined as part of the probe, while efforts are being made to arrest the accused at the earliest. Police officers said strict action would be taken after collecting medical and legal evidence connected to the case. The disturbing incident has triggered anger among local residents and social activists, with many demanding stronger safeguards for women facing domestic violence. The case has once again highlighted the urgent need for awareness, legal protection, and timely intervention in cases involving abuse within households.
