Toddler dies due to suffocation after inhaling fumes from a charcoal brazier in the CISF colony of the Koti Colony area, New Tehri, Uttarakhand. While her mother is in critical condition, police reported on Sunday. Incident came to light around 10 am Saturday, 17 January 2026. 

Neighbors, sensing something was wrong, alerted the police. Police forced entry into the house and found Monica Palve, 37, and her daughter Arya, 4, unconscious on a bed. Arya was pronounced dead at the district hospital, while Monica was transferred to AIIMS Rishikesh in critical condition.

According to PTI, Palve, from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, was in Dehradun for medical treatment. Police suspect Arya died from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a charcoal brazier in the room; a post-mortem report is pending.
