Veer Savarkar remembered on his 54th death anniversary

New Delhi, Feb 26 Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, fondly known Veer Savarkar, is being remembered on his 54th death anniversary on Wednesday.

Veer Savarkar was a freedom fighter, politician, lawyer, writer, social reformer and formulator of the Hindutva philosophy. He died on February 26, 1966.

Twitterati have taken to the micra blogging site to pay their tribute to Veer Savarkar to mark his death anniversary.

Taking to his Twitter handle Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy wrote, "I joined several other patriots in paying tributes to 'Swatantryaveer' Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, on his Punya Tithi. His contribution for the cause of Indian independence is truly immense, and his life is an inspiration for the future generations.

"Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb wrote, "Remembering the great Indian freedom fighter, social reformer, writer and philosopher, Veer Savarkar on his Punya Tithi. His spirit of nationalism and courage is still an inspiration for all of us."

BJP National Vice-President and spokesperson Baijayant Jay Panda wrote, "I join millions in paying homage to #VeerSavarkar on his Punyatithi. Misrepresented by some, he was one of our greatest patriots. He & his family made huge sacrifices for our freedom. He was widely read in both western & Indian philosophy & a prolific writer."

BJP National Secretary Sunil Deodhar tweeted, "Tributes to a fearless freedom fighter, Hindutva Icon & proud son of Bharat Mata, #VeerSavarkar Ji on his Punyatithi. His patriotism, courage and unflinching commitment to serve Bharat Mata will continue to inspire generations."

A user wrote, "Remembering freedom fighter Swatantryaveer Savarkar on his Punya Tithi. A true patriot who was subjected to toughest punishment Kala Pani by Britishers for his devotion towards the Motherland. Respect & Salute to Patriot."

Another wrote, "Tributes to a fearless freedom fighter, Hindutva Icon & proud son of Bharat Mata #VeerSavarkar Ji on his Punyatithi. His patriotism, courage and unflinching commitment to serve Bharat Mata will continue to inspire generations."
