In a re-run of the NRS Medical College incident of Kolkata, a person identified as Sony Sarma alias Bobby Singh alias Subhash Chander visited the College of Veterinary Sciences for treatment of six dogs last week and abused some of the intern doctors and physically assaulted one of them.

"Bobby Singh identified himself as husband of police officer Gayatri Sonowal and abused us and assaulted one of our doctors when we asked him to wait for his turn," said one of the intern doctors. Although one week had passed since the incident, no action had been taken, he said.

Gayatri Sonowal, an Assam Police Service (APS) cadre officer, is posted as the Deputy Commandant of the 10th battalion of Assam Police at Kahilipara.

"This type of behaviour with doctors on duty is a heinous crime. We, at IVA, demand strict action against the erring person and also request the Assam government for legislation to make violence against doctors at workplace a cognizable offence," said IVA President Chirantan Kadiyan on Monday.

"Although two FIRs have been lodged against the accused, nothing has been done by the Assam Police to bring him to the book," said one of the intern doctors.

The intern also organised a 'dharna' at the college demanding action.
