Vijayvargiya, accompanied by party MP Soumitra Khan, was on his way to Jangipur on Tuesday to meet BJP functionaries reportedly injured during the recent anti-CAA protests in Murshidabad district.

His convoy had to be halted at Nabagram when a large number of protesters showed him black flag and raised 'go back' slogans and blocked the road with e-rickshaws and jeeps.

After waiting for some time, Vijayvargiya himself got down from his car and tried to remove the vehicles along with his security personnel to remove the blockade.

But this only raised the tension. The BJP leader then turned his car and tried to go to Jangipur through a separate route.

Vijayvargiya later alleged that he was surrounded by miscreants at Nabagram and called up Union Home Minister Amit Shah, following which police reinforcements were rushed in, and his CISF guards took him to safety.

However, his convoy was again stopped at Morgram due to a traffic jam. As Vijayvargiya alighted from his car and tried to walk the distance, the police told him a 'chakka jam' programme was on, due to which he road was blocked at three-four places ahaead.

Vijayvarigya was seen arguing with the police officer, and told him "are you suggesting we should go back?"

After waiting for a while, Vijayvargiya headed to a nearby tea stall and spent some time there. Then he decided to cancel his plans to visit Jangipur and returned.

"The police superintendent and Director general of police did not take my call. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the police organised the chakka jam to prevent me from going to Jangipur," he said.
