The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) announced a nationwide “agitation” against the Waqf Amendment Bill. Speaking about this, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said all minorities, including all religions, are as safe as the Hindus are. He also accused the opposition of spreading misinformation about it.

Speaking with the news agency ANI, he said, “In our country, all minorities, including all religions, are as safe as the Hindus are. Our 'mool mantra' is 'sabka sath, sabka vikas'. The opposition does not have the mandate of the people. So they are spreading misinformation regarding Waqf to get the vote of the minorities. The Waqf Amendment Bill has been brought into place to uplift poor Muslims. The opposition is just trying to misguide people for their politics."

AIMPLB spokesperson, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, said that the central government brought this bill with a communal intention. “We have only said that the Waqf Bill, which has been brought in, is just with a communal intention...That bill only captures the Waqf property...They are trying to mislead the people,” he said, reported ANI.

What Is The Waqf Amendment Bill?

On August 8, 2024, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was introduced in the Lok Sabha, proposing substantial changes to the way waqf properties are managed in India. Properties designated for religious, philanthropic, or pious reasons are referred to as "waqf" under Islamic law. A 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) made up of 10 Rajya Sabha and 21 Lok Sabha members received it. The committee's task was to review the bill and report back by the final week of the 2024 Winter Session.
