A woman was killed and two others sustained injuries after a tree uprooted by high-speed winds fell over their makeshift house in North 24 Parganas on Sunday.

Another man died in a separate incident in Basirhat city, located near the bank of Ichamati River.The mishaps took place in the morning today. More details are awaited.

The ferry services have been suspended at Bichali Ghat in Kolkata due to the cyclonic storm.

According to the West Bengal government's report on cyclone Bulbul, as many as 7815 houses have been damaged and the around 870 trees have been uprooted.

The report also revealed that due to high-speed winds, 950 phone towers have been damaged disrupting the power supply. Also, one Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centre was damaged in Paschim Medinipur.

The very severe cyclonic storm Bulbul has crossed West Bengal Coast close to Sunderban Dhanchi forest from 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm on Saturday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm has moved towards east-northeastwards with a speed of 17 kmph in the past six hours and further weakened into a cyclonic storm.

"It is very likely to move east-northeastwards across Bangladesh. It is likely to weaken into a deep depression over coastal Bangladesh and neighbourhood during next six hours and into a depression during subsequent six hours," the IMD stated in its All India Weather Warning Bulletin.
