West Bengal (April 1, 2025): At least seven people, including four children and two women, were killed in a gas cylinder explosion Monday night in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. The blast occurred around 9 p.m. at a house in Dholaghat village of Pathar Pratima block. A woman was also injured and has been admitted to a hospital, Sunderban Police District Superintendent Koteswara Rao told PTI.

The explosion was initially believed to have occurred while making firecrackers. Rescue teams recovered all the bodies from the site. Officials are investigating the cause of the blast. Visuals from the scene, shared by news agencies, show extensive damage to the house.

In a separate incident, a gas cylinder explosion sparked a fire at a night market near Varanasi Cantt railway station on Monday morning, police said. No injuries were reported.

The blast occurred near pillar number 59 in front of the railway station. Sigra police station house officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra said firefighters and police rushed to the scene and took time to control the flames. Several shops were damaged, but there were no casualties.
