A BJP candidate from the Basanti assembly constituency, Bikash Sardar, said that his car was vandalised by All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Basanti Constituency on Wednesday, April 29, amid polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026.

BJP candidate Bikash Sardar alleged that 200-250 TMC 'goons' attacked his car and driver with sticks and bamboo. "Gundagiri by TMC is happening everywhere in the constituency. 200-250 TMC goons attacked my car with rods and bamboo sticks. They also attacked my driver," he added.

The voting in the second phase of the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections has begun at 8 am on Wednesday with incidents of violence and vandalism, which have created technical glitches in the EVMs.

Violence was reported in Chapra, Shantipur, Nimtala and Bhangar, according to police. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited various booths in her Bhabanipur assembly constituency, where she faces Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari in a prestige battle seen as a symbolic rematch of Nandigram, where he had defeated her in 2021.
