PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID card, Passport, Driving License are all government identity cards which are important and needed for important transaction. Have you ever wondered what happens to those cards after card holder' death? The deceased's relatives have no idea what to do with it. How long to keep it or deposit it with the government?

Let's find out ...

Aadhaar: Aadhaar number is used for your identity, address and use of various schemes. However, the relatives should take care and not to misuse this Aadhar card after the death of the person. UIDAI has no facility to cancel the Aadhaar card or register it as dead on it, said Jitendra Solanki, a SEBI registered investment advisor.

Voter ID Card: However, this is not the case with voter ID cards. The Election Commission has the facility to cancel the identity card of the deceased by filling up Form No.7. For this, a copy of the death certificate will have to be given at the local office.

PAN:

PAN card is used by banks to pay income tax. The deceased's income tax can also be paid for that year. PAN card is required till this account is closed. Until the income tax department processes the filed return, you will have to keep this PAN card. After this the bank account should be closed and the PAN card should be surrendered to the income tax department.

Passport:

Like Aadhar card, passport does not have surrender or cancellation facility. Once the validity of the passport expires, it is automatically canceled. It would be wise to keep passport after relative's death. Because it can be used for any legal matters. It can be kept with a death certificate.
