New Delhi, Aug 17 In its latest update on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there is a likelihood of heavy rainfall over Eastern and adjoining Central India on Thursday and Saturday, as well as over the Northeast on Thursday and August 21

In East India, there is a forecast of light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, the weather forecast agency said in its update.

The IMD further predicted that there's a high likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall activity over Gangetic West Bengal on Thursday, over Odisha till Saturday, over Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday, Bihar on Thursday and August 21, and Sub-Himalaya West Bengal and Sikkim on the August 21.

Additionally, there is a possibility of isolated extremely heavy falls in Odisha on Thursday and isolated very heavy rainfall on Friday

In Central India, the forecast includes light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning.

"There is a strong likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall activity over Chhattisgarh from Thursday to Saturday, over East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on Friday and Saturday, and West Madhya Pradesh on Saturday," said the IMD.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is also anticipated over Chhattisgarh on Friday.

In the Northeast, the expected weather pattern consists of light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorm and lightning activity.

"There's a very likely chance of isolated heavy rainfall activity over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura till August 21, as well as over Arunachal Pradesh from Saturday to August 21," said the weather department.

For Northwest India, the forecast indicates light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning activity.

The IMD said that there's a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall likely over Uttarakhand and East Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, Friday and August 21, and over West Uttar Pradesh on Auhust 21.

In South India, the weather outlook includes light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, with accompanying thunderstorm and lightning.

There's a very likely chance of isolated heavy rainfall activity over Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, as well as over Telangana on Friday and Saturday.

"Moreover, Thursday and Friday, are expected to bring hot and humid weather to Tamil Nadu," said the IMD.
