Chennai, May 10 From locals to actors, praises poured in for the newly sworn-in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay. At the same time, people hoped that the promises made by the debutant party will be delivered as the new government will be "watched like a hawk".

Extending his best wishes to the Chief Minister and the other Ministers, a local said: "Everyone's going to be watching you (Vijay) like a hawk, because there are so many promises that you've come to deliver."

He added that the state is under "heavy debt" and that women's safety, drug menace and lack of job opportunities are major issues in the state.

Praising the TVK Chief, the local said: "He (Vijay) is a star of the true order and a real-life hero."

"I hope all the promises that he has made will be delivered," he added.

However, he cautioned: "I am going to be raising questions every time they (TVK) are unable to deliver so that the new government can be kept in check."

While expressing his happiness on TVK MLA S. Keerthana taking oath as a Minister, he said: "I hope there are sufficient women representation in the expanded Cabinet, as well as representation from marginalised communities."

The local praised Chief Minister Vijay for delivering the first three promises.

Actress and model Sanam Shetty emphasised that TVK emerged as the largest party "without any alliance".

She said: "Vijay is the only actor who has won and been elected as CM in his very first attempt. This is not just beginner's luck as many people say. His services for Tamil Nadu people started long back though it didn't come to limelight then."

She called Vijay's achievement as a "step by step transition".

"What we are witnessing today is the success of not Vijay sir's stardom but his service," she added.

Shetty highlighted that her support for TVK has not been unconditional, rather she has monitored every step and promises made by the party.

"Being a new party, they have a clean slate and a lot of potential," she said.

The actress asserted that it is the intention that matters in serving the public.

A local, who also attended the swearing-in ceremony, referred to Chief Minister Vijay as a "very good person" who will do "good work".

"He has picked worthy people as Ministers," she said.

The local woman expressed confidence that with CM Vijay at the helm, nobody will engage in any sort of misdeed in the government.

"We even thank his (Chief Minister Vijay's) parents for raising such a boy," she said.

Actress Sangeetha also congratulated the new Chief Minister.

"Should be a good time (for Tamil Nadu)," she told reporters.
