A woman from Surat, Gujarat, refused to have a sexual relationship with her husband after she learned that he already had five wives. The man, who is 21 years older to the woman, started looking for a 7th wife after the sixth one refused to consummate the marriage. The man was identified as Ayyub Degiya. Since September last year, Degiya has been searching for a woman as he wishes to marry for the 7th time. Degiya, a farmer from Kalpetha, got married for the 6th time in September last year. The couple parted ways in December, after the woman refused to have sex with him. She refused to let the 63-year-old man sleep with her and told him that she had an infection.

Degiya said, "I have heart disease, diabetes and other diseases. I need a wife who can keep a relationship with me."The accused approached the woman and told her that he wanted to take care of her as she was widowed. The man said that his faith allowed him to take the step and promised to give her jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh along with the house. None of the promises, however, were delivered, The Times of India reported. The 6th wife of the man learned that he married multiple times after she did a background check on him. The woman alleged that the accused did not tell her about the marriage. Degiya started living with another woman soon after they separated. The woman said, "I was told by some villagers that he keeps relations for a few months with women and later abandons them."The woman approached the Mahila police station and the accused was booked under Section 498-A (cruelty to married woman).
