A man has been arrested in Mumbai by the Maharashtra Police in connection with the murder of his wife, whose body was discovered in a trolley bag at their Bengaluru residence. The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Gouri Anil Sambrekar, was found in a flat in the Doddakammanahalli village, Southeast Bengaluru. The husband, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, is suspected of killing his wife. According to Bengaluru police, Khedekar himself contacted the Maharashtra Police and the house owner on Thursday, informing them of his wife's body in the flat. Investigators revealed that Khedekar had left Bengaluru on March 25th, and made the call regarding his wife's body several days later. The discovery was made after the house owner alerted the police control room at approximately 5:30 pm on Thursday. A team from the Hulimavu police station was immediately dispatched to the location. Initially, authorities considered the possibility of suicide. However, upon arriving at the scene, they found Sambrekar's body concealed within a trolley bag inside the washroom. "The woman's body was found in the washroom," stated Sarah Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast).

Further forensic examination revealed that the victim had sustained a stab wound. "Forensic analysts have found a stab injury on the body," a police officer confirmed. Dispute over her inability to find a job and financial stress are at the heart of the murder as per a India Today report. Gauri had previously worked in a private company but had recently quit and was actively searching for a new job. The couple frequently argued over the issue, as Rakesh, a project manager at Hitachi, was the sole earning member. On the evening of March 26, a heated argument escalated when Rakesh allegedly slapped Gauri. Enraged, Gauri picked up a knife and threw it at Rakesh, injuring him.In retaliation, Rakesh used the same knife to stab Gauri multiple times, killing her on the spot. He then placed her body in a travel bag and hid it in the bathroom. After committing the murder, Rakesh informed a carpenter living below his apartment about the incident, who then alerted the house owner. The owner immediately dialled the police.

Rakesh also called his wife's parents and confessed to the murder. Meanwhile, Rakesh reached Pune in his car. He went to the Shirwal Police Station after consuming poison and confessed to the murder. He was rushed to Satara Hospital for initial treatment and was later shifted to Sassoon Hospital in Pune. A police team from Bengaluru's Hulimavu has reached Pune and is monitoring Rakesh's condition. If declared stable, he will be brought to Bengaluru for further investigation and legal action. Otherwise, he will be arrested post-recovery. Preliminary reports said Rakesh attempted to dispose of the body by shifting it into his car but failed. Investigators also revealed that after the murder, he had switched off Gauri's phone and tried to keep the incident hidden.
