Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a major crackdown on unauthorised constructions in the Kopar Khairane and Ghansoli wards, responding to persistent violations of planning regulations. The NMMC encroachment department, acting under the directives of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and the guidance of senior officials, initiated demolition drives after repeated notices issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, were ignored.

In Koparkhairane, three unauthorised structures in Sector 17 were demolished, each incurring a Rs 10,000 penalty, while an illegal wall in Sector 4 was also removed. Furthermore, street vendors operating illegally on footpaths near the Koparkhairane Shiv Temple in Pavane village faced enforcement, with their goods confiscated.

In Ghansoli, an unauthorised RCC ground plus a one-story construction in Gothivaligaon was demolished. The operations utilized a range of equipment, including electronic hammers, gas cutters, pickup vans, breakers, and a JCB, alongside labor teams.

Assistant Commissioners Vasant Mundavare from Koparkhairane and Vishnu Dhanawade from Ghansoli, along with junior engineers and police personnel, oversaw the operations. The NMMC emphasizes that these actions are crucial to upholding planned development and maintaining the city's integrity.
