Three weeks after a brutal road rage incident in Kharghar, where an IT professional was allegedly assaulted with a helmet, the Crime Branch Unit 3 arrested the second accused from Bandra, Mumbai, on Sunday. The accused had been absconding since the incident.

The arrested suspect, identified as Faizan Istiyak Shaikh, has been handed over to Kharghar police, which is investigating the case. The victim had collapsed at the Kharghar Police Station while filing a complaint and was later declared dead at the hospital. Earlier, another accused, Mohammad Rehan Ansari, a resident of VP Road, Mumbai, was arrested on February 10.

Shaikh was presented before the Panvel Court and has been remanded to police custody until February 28, 2025.

Fatal Dispute Over Overtaking

The incident, which took place on February 2, 2025, has shocked residents and raised concerns over rising cases of road rage in the city.

According to police reports, Shivkumar Roshanlal Sharma (45) was traveling on his motorcycle when he got into a dispute with two unidentified men riding another bike over overtaking. The argument escalated, leading the accused to attack Sharma on the head with a helmet, causing fatal injuries.

Following his death, Kharghar Police registered a case on February 3, 2025, under sections 103(1), 351(3), and 3(5) of the BNS. Recognizing the gravity of the case, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe, along with senior officers from the Crime Branch and Zone-2, directed an urgent and thorough investigation.

Eight Team Formed

Under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajaykumar Landge, eight special teams were deployed to track down the accused. The police meticulously analyzed CCTV footage from Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, conducted technical investigations, and worked with informants to identify the two suspects.

Acting on a tip-off, police learned that one of the accused would be present at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. Setting up a trap, they successfully arrested Ansari on February 11, 2025. He was presented before the court, which granted police custody until February 15, 2025.
