Maghi Ganpati Visarjan 2025: Over 1,200 Idols Immersed in Navi Mumbai; 582 POP Idols in Artificial Ponds

Navi Mumbai: A total of 1,275 Ganesh idols were immersed across the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) limits during the Maghi Ganesh Festival. Of these, 582 idols made of Plaster of Paris (POP) were immersed in artificial ponds, in line with the Bombay High Court's directive prohibiting their immersion in natural water bodies.

To ensure compliance, the NMMC set up 26 artificial immersion ponds across the city under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. Citizens were urged to follow the High Court’s order, and officials across all departments, led by zonal deputy commissioners, were on high alert to oversee the process.

A total of 693 clay idols were also immersed, with 34 placed in artificial ponds and 659 in 22 designated natural water bodies. The distribution of POP idol immersions across different zones was as follows:

  1. Belapur: 120 idols
  2. Nerul: 41 idols
  3. Vashi: 114 idols
  4. Turbhe: 118 idols
  5. Koparkhairane: 7 idols
  6. Ghansoli: 97 idols
  7. Airoli: 78 idols
  8. Digha: 7 idols
