A massive fire broke out at the Turbhe dumping ground in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, sending thick plumes of smoke across several kilometres and causing concern among nearby residents. Firefighters rushed to the spot soon after the blaze was reported, and multiple fire engines were deployed to control the situation.

According to officials, at least four fire engines were pressed into service as teams battled the flames for several hours. The fire at the dumping yard spread quickly due to the large volume of waste and dry materials present at the site, making firefighting operations challenging. Authorities said efforts were still underway to bring the blaze completely under control.

The smoke from the fire spread over surrounding areas, reducing visibility and creating discomfort for residents in nearby localities. Officials are monitoring the situation closely and taking necessary precautions to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Meanwhile, a separate fire incident was reported in the Turbhe area few days ago. A major blaze broke out in a G+3 storeyed commercial building located in a bylane of Sector 23 near the flyover opposite the NMMT bus depot. Three shops — a hardware store, an electronics shop and a ceramic shop — were gutted in the fire.

Rohan Kokate, fire officer of Vashi fire station, confirmed the incident and said firefighting teams responded promptly to control the blaze. Further details about the cause of both fires are yet to be ascertained
