Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a crackdown on abandoned and non-functional vehicles in the Matunga area, ensuring smoother traffic movement and pedestrian safety. As part of the operation, 54 abandoned vehicles were removed, and 154 vehicle owners were issued notices to clear their defunct vehicles.

The drive, initiated by BMC’s F (North) ward, targeted vehicles that were either obstructing roads or had become potential sites for illegal activities. The action was prompted by numerous citizen complaints about abandoned vehicles in the area.

The operation covered several key roads, including Balkrishna Sule Marg, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, Ravli Gantara Marg, Sheikh Misri Dargah Marg, Korba Mithagar Marg, and Wadala Fire Station Road. While 37 vehicle owners voluntarily removed their vehicles, the administration disposed of 17 defunct vehicles.

With the removal of these vehicles, traffic congestion has eased, and citizens have expressed satisfaction with the action. Authorities have warned that stricter enforcement will continue to keep Mumbai’s roads clear and organized.
